Greetings Homeschooling Mavericks! Are you tired yet? I am here to say that I am already exhausted. Holy Moly what am I doing to myself? The extreme late nights are getting to me. My head and ear is killing me today and it is showing no signs of going away.
Home school in PJ’s- Here’s what I love…..home school in pj’s. Doing school in your pj’s can be so freeing and saves time. Don’t you agree? Now we don’t do school in our pj’s everyday but days like today why not?
9:00am I just found myself rolling out of my bed. It appears my child has been up but she’s been so quiet I didn’t know it. I’m a little upset that she didn’t wake me so we could start school on time. I do understand though, she probably didn’t because she knows I don’t sleep and get upset when people wake me for reasons that make no senese to me and she would stall all day from starting school if it meant watching TV instead. I tell my tiny human she can wake me up for school knowing she probably never will. I plug up the laptop and she is off and running. I start my coffee and start pondering breakfast.
9:15am Spanish begins and I start figuring out breakfast and cleaning dishes.
9:45am Breakfast is on the table for the tiny human and hot coffee in a cup for me. I love my Hazelnut. Harmonie says the Serenity Prayer and away we go. We start Math and plow through it to English then Religion review. It’s interesting to me how this kid gets the same questions wrong early day in the review. These are the ones I will have to drill in her brain by the end of the quarter.
10:50am Break time…..She’s off to the bedroom for a little recess break and TV therapy. I’m going through my homework assignments for my MBA, checking emails, Facebook and trying to read a little bit of a blog post. I should be starting my blog but my head and eyes are not working right. My head hurts and the light in our dining room is awful. Without my reading glasses I’m somewhat blind to reading and writing in my distance glasses. My child broke my reading glasses playing around and now I only have my glasses for distance until I can get new readers.
11:05am Back to work we go. I read a Chapter of This is Our Valley and we have a discussion about what do we do when we find something like a bee hive and we don’t know what to do with it. We also go over the comprehension questions. It’s nice to see that Harmonie is beginning to focus more during reading time and her comprehension is improving. Yay Mommy! (Patting myself on the back) Listen, all of us moms and dads need to pat ourselves on the back from time to time. Give yourself some credit for a job well done.
11:30am Harmonie starts working independently on her History questions. Now I have to say that I’m a little curious to see how much she remembers from the readings. We spent two days reading the history story and now two days later she has to remember it all to answer questions, which means she had to be focused and care enough to remember.
12:00pm She finishes her questions and I correct them because I really want to know how she did. 100% Wow that makes me happy. We’re making some progress at this homeschooling thing.
1:30pm Harmonie heads to the bedroom for her TV kick back session. I head to the shower to finally get cleaned up and dressed. Then I head to the kitchen to clean up and make myself some lunch. I transfer the laptop from the dining room table and take it to the living room couch. That’s my spot for the next few hours.
2:00pm I pop World War Z in the DVD player. Thanks Netflix for all your service to my downtime entertainment pleasure. I take about a half an hour eating my lunch and watching the movie to just wind down a bit. I feel awful today. I have to stop going to bed so let. It’s starting to affect my body. If I’m not careful I’ll be sick next and then relapse. I have Epstein Bar it doesn’t hestitate to rear it’s ugly head to let me know when I have pushed to far. Then the little bugger knocks me on my butt for as long as it thinks I need to be down to recoup. It’s not a very nice condition to have. But it keeps me from doing to much so I will start working on getting to bed earlier and getting things done sooner.
2:30pm I pick up my laptop and start reading blogs and attaching my blogs to Google +. I’m working hard to get readers that subscribe and comment. I also take this opportunity to start doing some school work of my own. I have an assignment due tonight at 11:59pm EST. I find it a little unfair that all the west coast students loose three hours of work time. My last class our assignments were due 11:59pm period. This professor wants it on her time. Oh well! No complaining, just get the work done I think.
4:30pm I race to the kitchen to warm up some speghteii for Harmonie to eat in the car. My phone rings and it’s my friend calling to tell me a story. While getting ready to run out the door I remember that I forgot to print out enrollment forms for my classes I was teaching that evening. Harmonie runs to the kitchen to finish warming her speghteii and she puts it in a to go container for herself and starts hurrying me out the door. I print out my forms and off we go.
5:00pm We hop the freeway and head for the post office. I have to check the mail. Nothing was in there that made me mad. The post office sends me a text to tell me pick up the mail and every now and then there is nothing in there. Ugh! I hop back on the freeway into the traffic and head to work to teach what I hope will be two classes filled with paying students. We’ve been trying to build these classes for months and nothing is sticking, Yet! I believe it will. We just keep trying.
5:45pm We arrive at the clubhouse and head inside to get ready for class. I plug everything in and sit down. Harmonie grabs her DS and starts playing a game quietly.
6:00pm Class time but there are no students yet. I start working on my assignment that is due. I start reading and researching. My phone rings. It’s another friend of mine calling about her day. I talk to her a bit and try to do school work. Oh no! My computer looses the internet connection. Ugh! I don’t have a lot of time. I try to get it back while I listen to her story and respond appropriately. She had a rough day.
6:30pm Eureka! The internet is back. I say my goodbyes because I have to get this done and I slam myself into my work. I get all the research done and begin to write my comments.
7:30pm Finally, I’m done! My work has been submitted and now we can go home. We pack everything up and head out the door. No students showed up today but bright side I got my homework done and submitted in record time.
7:45pm We’re in the car and headed home. I stop by a drive thru market for Hazelnut Coffeemate. This little invention of a drive thru market is fabulous, however they are expensive. They charge extra for the convenience of driving thru. I would have gone to Walmart but I didn’t want to take the risk of shutting off the car and having to get a jump. We stopped by Walgreens on the way and I locked the child in while I raced in for a card I didn’t buy. Maybe tomorrow and we headed home.
8:30pm Finally home! We drove around looking for parking, found a spot and walked down the block to our apartment. Home at last. Little Miss Muffet got herself ready for bed. My head and ear are pounding but I have blogs to write and reading to do. So I sit on the bed and get things ready.
9:00pm Night time kisses are done with huggies attached and all eight year olds are in bed. Now to the computer. I find myself reading a blog post about a family in Germany who’s kids were taken away from them because they wanted to move away to homeschool. I will be doing a post about this later today and attaching the article. It is a fascinating and frustrating read.
12:48am I didn’t manage to write one word tonight. I spent all my time reading that article, commenting on it and reading a few other blogs along the way. Tomorrow then!
Good night all! Here is another day completed. Tomorrow is another day to do better. Sleep well!
How often do you have school in your pjs?
