Quite often, I see postings of beautiful home school rooms and I often dream of having one of our own. We live in a one bedroom apartment and home school in our dining room. I have spent this past year teaching at our dining room table with the dining room set up as if we are going to have guess over for dinner. We never have guess over for anything.
I decided that this year we would have our own home school room. Now that we are in this adventure for the duration, I thought it would be nice to give Harmonie a nicely decorated home school room to work out of.
I looked at tons of pictures of home school rooms on Pinterest and on home school blogs that I read and I went to work. I took Harmonie to the teacher store and bought a few posters and wall borders. Then, we went to the Dollar Tree, where every home school mom goes for her supplies, and found more posters. I grabbed my music posters, I’m not using right now, and got some chalkboard paper and created this wonderful wall for her. I moved my craft modules out of my room and placed them in the dining room, so that craft supplies are now easy to get too. We reorganized all of our pens, pencils and paints. I started decorating one night while she was sleeping and she woke up to a brand new room to school in.
She sat down and it took her awhile to realize that she was sitting in a new and improve home school room. When she realized, she looked at me and said, “Some thing’s different!” After, she stopped with her on special brand of dramatics, she said she liked the new home school room and wondered when did I get it all done.
I love my baby girl. I have to say, I love our new room too. This is just a little tiny space, that now feels like a big space. The truth is, you really don’t need a home school room to home school. You can school on the couch if that suits your fancy. I however, like structure and a little tradition. We feel so much better in our new room. We both work much better and more comfortable in a nice clean and organized space. It is a good thing.
Do you have a special home school room? How did you decorate it? Is it important to have a special decorated space or does it really not matter. What are your thoughts?
