So, there is a free Yoga on the Beach class that happens every morning in our city. Harmonie and I, after a great deal of discussion, decided we would go every Tuesday and Thursday to this class. We took the first one about a month ago and this week is the first week we have managed to make it back and go both days.
I like yoga. It is a class full of stretching. I love stretching. I have done yoga once before from a DVD I own and it was cool. I never kept up with it, but I liked it well enough. What I did not like however, was the “Downward Facing Dog” pose. I don’t want to face a dog. I don’t want to be downward on anything. This darn pose hurts. LOL!
No, really this is a traditional pose in yoga and I have always found it difficult because it is dependent on arm strength. I have leg strength as a dancer, but my arms are not nearly as strong as my legs. This class is great for refocusing your mind and taking a moment to reconnect with your inner peace. The sound of the waves is soothing and mesmerizing. I really like taking this class, but darn it, this class showed me how out of shape I am and that sucks. It hurts!
Yoga is great for your overall health. The twisting poses improve your digestive system. It is a great stress reliever. It improves sleeping habits, improves flexibility and strengthens muscles. It is great for spiritual health. There is nothing negative I can say about yoga to be honest, except I’m not down with the downward facing dog. Hahaha!
As a homeschooling parent, I think it is a great idea for all homeschooling parents to pick an exercise activity to do with their children a couple of times a week. It is pretty easy to make it a part of our curriculum. Okay, it may not be super easy, but it is doable. Exercising with your kids gives you the opportunity to be the healthier example for your kids. And lets be honest, we as homeschooling parents can use a little exercise in our lives.
Yoga is a great exercise regimen that not only teaches us how to be more in tune with our bodies but also in tune with our spirits. What better way to teach our children to be in tune with their inner peace. All our kids should be more connected with their bodies and inner selves. Imagine what the younger generation would be like if they learned how to connect with themselves on a deeper level. The world would be a much different place.
What exercise regimen ideas do you have? Do you do yoga with your kids? What are your thoughts? Let’s chat about it!
